Accommodation
Finding a place to live in Hamburg is no easy task. We therefore recommend you to take care of accommodation as soon as possible. There are several options how to find a room listed below.
Student housing run by Studierendenwerk Hamburg (application recommended!)
We strongly urge new students from abroad to apply for a furnished room in a student residence. You can stay in these residences at the favorable price between €230 and €300 per month. These is the most likely housing in Hamburg.
Contact Studierendenwerk for apartments, shared apartments, or rooms to rent.
Be sure to apply for a room at least 3 months before you arrive.
To increase your chances of getting housing, we recommend that leave the choice for preferred residence open.
Student housing run by other organizations
There is generally a waiting list for student housing run by Studierendenwerk Hamburg, so applying is not a guarantee for a place. We advise you to contact other student housing providers. These charge monthly rents between €200 and €360 for a single room (subject to change). Find more student housing providers, addresses, and email-addresses.
Short-term rentals
Some student housing providers rent rooms for up to 6 months (short-term rent). This is a good option if you have not yet found a room but need affordable accommodation for the first couple of months.
