Accommodation
Finding a place to live in Hamburg is no easy task. We therefore recommend you to take care of accommodation as soon as possible. There are several options how to find a room listed below.
Student housing run by Studierendenwerk Hamburg (application recommended!)
We strongly urge new students from abroad to apply for a furnished room in a dorm offered by Studierendenwerk Hamburg. The STW Hamburg offers rooms at a favorable price of between 250-350 Euros per month.
Contact Studierendenwerk for apartments, shared apartments, or rooms to rent.
Tip: Places in these dorms are scarce, so be sure to apply for a room at least 6 months before your planned arrival. To increase your chances of finding accommodation, we recommend that you look for housing in all Hamburg and surrounding areas, and not just in neighborhoods close to campus.
Student housing run by other organizations
There is generally a long waiting list for student housing run by Studierendenwerk Hamburg, so applying is not a guarantee for a place. We advise you to contact other (private) student housing providers as well.
Short-term rentals
Some student housing providers rent rooms for up to 6 months (short-term rent). This is a good option if you have not yet found a room but need affordable accommodation for the first couple of months.
Private rooms or apartments
There are several websites listing private rooms and apartments to let (all in German):
