Campus Life

University of Hamburg is not located on a single campus. It has a main campus but its buildings are located throughout the Grindelviertel, a lively district close the center of the city and the Alster lakes. Between classes, you can grab a coffee in one of the many cafés on or near the campus or just take a stroll to the Alster or Planten un Blomen, a vast, lush park right next to the main campus.

The main campus is easily accessible by bus, train, or bike. The School of Integrated Climate and Earth System Sciences (SICSS) is located only 2 bus stops or a 10 minutes by foot from the main campus

All our programs start with a compulsory Introduction Course that gives an expert-based overview on the disciplines, dealing with climate sciences. The Introduction Course includes lectures and practicals on good scientific practice and an intercultural training.

We organize alumni events twice a year, usually prior to our annual summer and Christmas parties, thus enabling our students and doctoral candidates to network. During these events, MSc and doctoral graduates from various professional fields return to SICSS and talk about their careers. These evenings usually include food, drinks, and music.

The annual meetings held by AGU and EGU offer an additional opportunity for our alumni to stay in touch with SICSS and to get to know our current MSc students and doctoral candidates. We usually have a booth at these conferences and organize a SICSS & Friends evening.

The graduate school SICSS is part of the umbrella graduate school MINGZ. This organises networking events to improve the scientific and personal networking of young scientists.

The annual Retreat of all doctoral candidates is also a compulsory element and constitutes an ideal platform for new members to get in contact and to introduce themselves with a talk. Senior candidates are invited to rehearse their disputation in front of a critical but constructive fellow audience.
