Her thesis "Experience of Nature: A Key Enabling Factor for Addressing Inner Dimensions for Sustainability," was supervised by Dr. Prem Neupane (Universität Hamburg) and Prof. Dr. Michael Schnegg (Universität Hamburg).
Danira's research explored the profound influence of nature experiences on individuals' internal dimensions within the context of sustainability. Delving into the multifaceted aspects of nature experiences, her study elucidated its potential to shape key qualities and capacities crucial for sustainability. By presenting the experience of nature as a powerful catalyst for transformation, Danira highlighted its role as a profound leverage point in sustainability efforts.
Drawing upon existing literature in the field, Danira developed a conceptual framework that revealed the significant impact of nature experiences on specific internal qualities and capacities essential for sustainability transformation: cognitive flexibility, emotional connection with nature, and relational thinking.
Through her research, Danira aimed to contribute to a paradigm shift in sustainability science, advocating for a holistic approach that recognizes the importance of internal transformation. Her objective was to help cultivate a platform for a new kind of sustainability science—one that emphasizes deep leverage transformation from within.
Looking ahead, Danira envisions continuing her work on deep leverage and transformation for sustainability, particularly focusing on implementing this perspective in human development projects, especially in the global south.
