We warmly congratulate Lukas Rieder on the successful completion of his doctoral thesis, titled "Assessing Electrical Conductivity and Total Alkalinity for Carbon Accounting in Enhanced Rock Weathering Applications."

In his dissertation he explored how CO₂ removal through Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) can be quantified across different environments. He investigated total alkalinity and its components, studied how microorganisms influence mineral weathering, and tested whether electrical conductivity can serve as a practical proxy for carbon stored in water.

The dissertation was supervised by Prof. Dr. Jens Hartmann (University of Hamburg), with co-supervision by Dr. Mathilde Hagens (Wageningen University & Research).

After completing his PhD, Lukas is now looking to apply his scientific background to the renewable energy sector and the broader net-zero transition, where emission reductions will play the most critical role.
