Below you can find the steps that you need to take in order to apply for the M.Sc. program in Integrated Climate System Sciences. Please note that we can only accept complete and correct applications, only between February 15th to March 31st every year. Please also check our application guidelines (Download PDF).
Can I apply for the M.Sc. ICSS?
- Do you have a bachelor’s degree in a subject related to climate sciences, such as Meteorology, Oceanography, Geophysics, Environmental Physics, or other Earth System Sciences?
- A degree in another natural-scientific bachelor's program may also be accepted, provided that coursework equivalent to approximately 90 credit points in subjects comparable to the curriculum of the aforementioned programs can be demonstrated.
- Also, please note that the ICSS program is primarily offered to students coming from a purely natural-scientific background.
- Do you have a solid background in Physics and Mathematics?
- Are you proficient in English? See details below.
- Are you interested in an interdisciplinary approach to climate change?
- Do you enjoy new challenges, like having to combine concepts from different disciplines?
If your answer to all those questions above is "yes”, we would be happy to consider your application for the MSc in Integrated Climate System Sciences.
Required Documents
You can apply to the Master of Science program in Integrated Climate System Sciences each year from February 15th 00:00 CET to March 31st 23:59 CET on STiNE, where you will have to upload the following documents:
- 1. Letter of Qualification (up to three pages) Template (Download DOCX)
- 2. Curriculum Vitae
- 3. Proof of English Language Proficiency
- Accepted proofs of English language proficiency are defined by the current admission regulations. These include in particular: IELTS Academic (minimum score: 7.0), TOEFL iBT (minimum score: 95), Cambridge English Qualifications, PTE Academic, UNIcert III or higher, telc English C1, proof of completion of a degree programme at a recognised higher education institution with English as the exclusive language of instruction
- The exclusive use of English as the language of instruction must be demonstrated by appropriate documentation (e.g. degree certificate, transcript of records, diploma supplement, or official certificates issued by the university). A simple statement such as “medium of instruction: English” is generally not considered sufficient unless it clearly demonstrates that the entire degree programme, including examinations and assessments, was completed exclusively in English.
- If such proof cannot be provided unambiguously, or if there are justified doubts regarding the applicant’s English language proficiency for an English-language master’s programme, an additional standardised English language test at a minimum level of C1 may be required. In cases of doubt, or in the case of degrees completed a longer time ago, the submission of a current standardised language certificate may additionally be requested.

examinations taken, including your average grade to date (simple copy) - 5. (APS Certificate)
- 6. If available, summary of B.Sc. thesis in English
