We are proud to announce the successful disputation of our SICSS member Svenja Reents
Her dissertation “Climate change in salt marshes - Effects of hydrodynamic forcing, sea level rise and higher temperatures on coastal vegetation” was supervised by Prof. Dr. Kai Jensen (Universität Hamburg) and Dr. Stefanie Nolte (University of East Anglia).
Svenja investigated how climate change factors such as an increased storminess, higher temperatures and accelerated sea level rise affect the vegetation of salt marshes, especially focusing on plant properties that are important for marsh resilience and coastal protection. She assessed impacts of these climate change factors in large-scale experiments e.g. at the big wave flume in Hanover or the MERIT warming experiment at the Hamburger Hallig.
Svenja was a member of the Institute of Plant Science and Microbiology at the Universität Hamburg.
Svenja’s future plans?
Since the 1st of April, Svenja has been working as a Postdoc at the Alfred-Wegener-Institute (AWI) at Sylt. She is now mainly working on the carbon sequestration potential of seagrass meadows in the German Wadden Sea.
