The Joint Career Days 2025, held on January 21–22, 2025, provided early-career researchers with insights and networking opportunities. Organized by the School of Integrated Climate and Earth System Sciences (SICSS) in collaboration with partner institutions such as DESY, IMPRS-ESM, and IMPRS-UFAST, the event brought together doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and professionals from various sectors.
Day 1: In-Person Networking and Career Discussions
The first day, hosted at Betahaus Hamburg, featured a keynote session that introduced key career topics. Participants engaged in 18 interactive small-group discussions with alumni and industry experts. These sessions covered a variety of career paths, including academia, industry, science management, public service, data science, and entrepreneurship.
Representatives from organizations such as Airbus, Vattenfall, Philips, the World Bank, the German Aerospace Center, Deloitte, and PwC shared their experiences and provided guidance on career transitions. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions, gain knowledge, and establish professional connections.
Day 2: Online Career Services and Consultations
The second day transitioned to an online format, offering participants support through CV checks, one-on-one career coaching, and expert advice on securing third-party funding. These services aimed to help attendees refine their career strategies.
Participant Feedback and Future Considerations
Feedback from attendees was generally positive, with many noting the event’s role in broadening their perspectives on career options and expanding their professional networks. The discussion format allowed for meaningful conversations, and the online consultations provided tailored guidance that many found useful.
