Dr. Sebastian Zubrzycki studied geography at Universität Hamburg and Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, and received his doctorate in biogeochemistry of Arctic soils from Universität Hamburg. Afterwards, he worked as a postdoc in the Siberian Arctic in collaboration with the Russian Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, St. Petersburg University, Melnikov Permafrost Institute in Yakutsk, as well as Universität Hamburg.
As a science manager, he spent three years coordinating the BMBF-funded project CarboPerm, an interdisciplinary Russian-German project on the formation, turnover, and release of carbon in Siberian permafrost landscapes. Additionally, he had teaching assignments at St. Petersburg University and Lomonosov Moscow State University. Subsequently, Sebastian served as the executive coordinator of the EU-funded Climate KIC program at Universität Hamburg, Europe's largest public-private innovation partnership focused on climate innovation for mitigating and adapting to climate change.
In October 2016, he joined SICSS, where he was responsible for the internationalization strategy as well as gender and diversity issues. Today, Sebastian coordinates the DEI program in the Cluster of Excellence CLICCS, as well as the Master’s Program in Integrated Climate System Sciences (MSc ICSS).
