We are proud to announce the successful disputation of our SICSS member Frederic Noel Kogoui Kamta.
His dissertation "Conflict, Climate Change and Migration in the Lake Chad Basin with Focus on Resource Scarcity and Insecurity in Northeast Nigeria" was supervised by Prof. Dr. Jürgen Scheffran and Jun. Prof. Dr. Janpeter Schilling.
Frederic investigated the factors that drive out-migration from the rural areas of northeast Nigeria towards urban centers in the region. He further investigated the potential that migration may lead to tensions or conflicts between displaced persons and their host communities. In this region that experiences severe environmental challenges due to global warming, people lack access to sufficient and adequate quantities of water. A terrorist group has also been formed in this region and a political conflict between them and the surrounding governments has been going on for the past ten years. Frederic found that migration in this region is mainly caused by the conflict, but is also a function of socioeconomic en environmental factors in the region..
Frederic was a member of the Institute of Geography at the Universität Hamburg
Frederic's future plans?
Currently looking for a postdoc position to further specialize in his field of research.
