We are proud to announce the successful disputation of our SICSS member Song Li
His dissertation "The ocean submesoscale: kinetic energy conversion and adjoint modelling" was supervised by Prof. Dr. Detlef Stammer and Dr. Nuno Serra.
In the first part of his thesis, Song Li investigated the impacts of the ocean submesoscale on kinetic energy conversion. He found that external forcing, e.g., wind stress forcing, could significantly promote the ocean submesoscale activity; such promotion can substantially influence the ocean kinetic energy conversion. In the second part of his thesis, Song investigated the possibilities to constrain the ocean submesoscale in an adjoint-based data assimilation model. Both parts have been collected into two research papers to be submitted to oceanography journals.
Song was a member of the Institute of Oceanography at Universität Hamburg
Song's future plans:
He will look for a job in China and may be interested in positions in scientific management.
