Bringing the best young talent in climate research to Hamburg – to support this goal, the SICSS (School of Integrated Climate and Earth System Sciences) will receive funding from the DAAD until 2029. This was announced by the DAAD today. SICSS aims to recruit up to 40 students per year and integrate them into climate-related master’s programmes at the University of Hamburg. Increased diversity will benefit not only the programmes and students themselves, but also the already excellent climate research hub in Hamburg, which will be further strengthened.
SICSS’s strategy includes targeted international outreach to talented students, close academic and social support throughout their studies, and comprehensive assistance with integration in Hamburg. In addition, early connections to research institutions and companies will be established, alongside structured support for career development, including preparation for doctoral studies and entry into the job market.
With this concept, the University of Hamburg is one of around 20 universities in Germany selected for funding under the DAAD programme “Academic Horizons – Attracting Global Minds.” The programme supports universities with particularly promising approaches to recruiting international students, supporting them effectively, and encouraging them to pursue long-term careers in Germany.
