We are proud to announce the successful disputation of our SICSS member Daniel Schwarzkopf
His dissertation “Modeling of Ship Emissions and a Comparison of Their Impact on Air Quality between Northern Europe and Eastern China” was supervised by Prof. Dr. Kay-Christian Emeis (UHH; on the right) and Dr. Volker Matthias (Helmholtz-Zentrum hereon; on the left).
Daniel has developed a model that is able to calculate temporally and spatially highly resolved ship emissions data. He applied the model to the North and Baltic Sea regions and to the coastal regions of China. The impact of ship emissions on air quality was compared between both regions by using the generated emissions data in a chemistry transport model. In addition, a new method was developed to create ship emissions scenarios and used to study the emissions of a marine fuel switch to ammonia in 2050.
Daniel was a member of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, Institute of Coastal Environmental Chemistry.
Daniel’s future plans?
Daniel already started working on his PostDoc ARIADNE Kopernikus Project.
