We are proud to announce the successful disputation of our SICSS member Anna Elisabeth Logemann
Her dissertation “Organic contaminants in North Sea sediments - Development of assessment criteria for the contaminant pollution status through multidimensional analyses” was supervised by Prof. Dr. Kay-Christian Emeis (UHH) and Dr. Berit Brockmeyer (BSH).
Anna investigated alternative assessment approaches for contaminants in marine sediments by applying three separate concepts that allow to shed light on contaminant assessment in sediments from different scientific perspectives. These included the investigation of an alternative normalization method for contaminants in sediments and the comparison to the currently used approach, trend analyses of contaminants in sediment cores as well as the development of a toxicological screening test for marine sediments using bioluminescence bacteria. She also discussed the possible applicability of these concepts in context of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.
Anna was a member of the Institute for Geology, Universität Hamburg, and the Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie.
Anna’s future plans?
Anna left academia two and a half years ago and started working in the public service at the Hamburger Landeslabor "Institut für Hygiene und Umwelt" as a team leader where she is responsible for the organization and execution of the surface water monitoring. This is what she plans to continue doing :-)
