We are proud to announce the successful disputation of our SICSS member Muhammad Mobeen.
His dissertation “Flood Risk, Climate Adaptation and Rural Livelihood in Pakistan's Irrigated Agriculture: Statistical Analysis of Farmer Survey Data” was supervised by Prof. Dr. Jürgen Scheffran and Prof. Dr. Uwe A. Schneider.
Muhammad investigated the immediate response of farmers to floods and their climate adaptation strategies in Pakistan's irrigated agriculture regions. He used empirical survey data and applied Structural Equation Modelling and Necessary Condition Analysis techniques on VIABLE and PMT frameworks. His model VIABLE SEM revealed livelihood capital is the most influential predictor of adaptation strategies and the fear of floods contributes the most in the displacement decision of farmers.
Muhammad was associated with the Research Group Climate Change and Security (CLISEC) at Universität Hamburg.
His future plans?
He wants to stay in academia and have a plan to validate the findings of research with dynamic modeling approaches.
