The School of Integrated Climate and Earth System Sciences (SICSS) at Universität Hamburg is delighted to announce the successful doctoral defense of Dr. Seyed Taleb Hosseini on 25th of march. His dissertation, titled "Estuarine Hydrodynamics in Arid Climates – A Case Study of the Persian Gulf and Its Small Estuaries," was supervised by Professor Corinna Schrum, Professor Emil Stanev, and Dr. Johannes Pein.
Dr. Hosseini's research focuses on the understudied low-inflow estuaries, such as inverse and salt-plug estuaries, particularly in arid regions. By examining the Persian Gulf, the Mond Estuary, and an idealized funnel-shaped estuary through observations and numerical modeling, his work significantly enhances the global understanding of these unique estuarine systems.
Currently, Dr. Hosseini is a scientist in the Hydrodynamics and Data Assimilation department at Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon. His research interests include estuarine hydrodynamics, circulation and transport processes in coastal oceans, sediment dynamics, and biogeochemical modeling.
Looking ahead, Dr. Hosseini aims to expand his research to encompass the physico-chemical oceanography of coastal and shelf seas, building upon his extensive work in estuarine dynamics.
