We are proud to announce the successful disputation of our SICSS member Adrian Heger
His dissertation “Process-based characterization of the soil carbon balance in hardwood floodplain forests of the lower middle Elbe River” was supervised by Prof. Dr. Annette Eschenbach and Prof. Dr. Lars Kutzbach.
Adrian assessed key drivers for processes in the soil carbon (C) balance of hardwood floodplain forests at the lower middle Elbe River. He investigated soil characteristics and in situ CO2 effluxes in up to 49 floodplain study sites. In these forests, he studied the effect of vegetation type and floodplain relief (hydrologic situation) on soil organic carbon stocks. He determined the main drivers for soil organic carbon stabilization processes and annual soil CO2 efflux.
Adrian was a member of the Institute of Soil Science at the Universität Hamburg.
Adrian’s future plans?
After a parental leave, he continues in a Post-doc position at the Institute of Soil Science, where he studies the specific ecosystem functions of hardwood floodplain forests of the lower middle Elbe river.
