Yuqing investigated the impact of land use and land cover changes on carbon fluxes in the Cerrado ecoregion, southeastern Brazil. He analyzed eddy covariance CO2 flux data and developed a Net Ecosystem Exchange partitioning model to estimate the carbon exchange of Cerrado woodland and planted pasture. His thesis suggests that converting Cerrado woodland into pasture would reduce the annual carbon uptake of the land and increase its vulnerability to changes in climate forcings. His thesis was supervised by Dr. David Holl and Prof. Dr. Lars Kutzbach (both Institute of Soil Science, Universität Hamburg).
Yuqing's future plans?
Yuqing plans to continue his research in the field of sustainable agriculture and help others along the way.
