Her thesis "Regional Development under Different Climate Futures in the Arctic: An Agent Based-Model for Understanding Complex Human-Environment Interactions" was supervised by Prof. Jürgen Scheffran und (Universität Hamburg) und Dr. Sascha Hokamp (Universität Hamburg).
The Arctic is one of the regions most severely impacted by climate change. At the same time, the Arctic holds large amounts of natural resources that will be more accessible in a future under ongoing climate change. Due to this richness in natural resources, the Arctic is often rendered a plaything for global climate politics. To understand the interconnections between climate change and local development, an ABM of the Arctic is built to model how environmental change will impact the local population, political decisions and economy. Preliminary results indicate a strong connection between education and sustainable development, and international cooperation and local decision-making options.
