We are proud to announce the successful disputation of our SICSS member Lea Fink.
Her dissertation “Modelling transport and transformation of aerosols from ship exhausts” was supervised by Prof. Dr. Bernd Leitl (Universität Hamburg) and Dr. Volker Matthias (Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon).
Lea investigated the potential impact of ships on air pollution in the Mediterranean Sea. She compared and evaluated five regional scale chemistry transport models and found that most air pollutants are underestimated. She developed an approach to include an aerosol box model into the larger scale models for a more detailed representation of in-plume particle formation on a regional scale.
She was a member of the Institute of Coastal Environmental Chemistry at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon.
Lea's future plans?
She is currently working in a project on aerosols from airports in which she will continue as a postdoc. This is at the same institute she worked at during her PhD.
