Inspiration for future careers, graduation ceremony, and summer celebration: that was the essence of the SICSS Career Talks & Summer Party on June 28th. In perfect weather, everyone enjoyed networking, partying and simply having a good time on the SICSS terrace.
The evening commenced with the Career Talks session, featuring two alumni of SICSS, Dr. Katharina Heider (Doctoral Alumni) and Lukas Schmitz (MSc ICSS Alumni), sharing their career journeys with the audience. Dr. Katharina Heider successfully completed her doctorate at SICSS in 2022. She subsequently secured a position at Greenpeace as an Investigative Researcher, tasked with uncovering environmental violations, particularly illegal pollution by corporations, and exposing scandals. Lukas Schmitz obtained his MSc in 2018. His path led him from a research position at CEN to serving as a high school teacher. Eventually, he founded his own NGO, Sana Mare e.V., where he continues to champion environmental protection and poverty alleviation. Additionally, he serves at the Baltic Environmental Forum Germany.
Following a thesis-honoring graduation ceremony, the evening seamlessly shifted to a festive atmosphere, where friendships were cultivated, strengthened, and networking thrived. There was lots of chatting - about studying, projects, future projects and making plans together. There was also a picture show of past year events and happenings. The evening ended with a karaoke session by the students. All in all, it was a successful summer evening.
