We are proud to announce the successful disputation of our SICSS member Daniela Eichner.
Her dissertation “Reconstruction of tectonically induced vertical motions and paleo-ecological evolution of the Island of Rhodes during the Plio-Pleistocene” was supervised by Dr. habil. Yvonne Milker and Prof. Dr. Gerhard Schmiedl (both Universität Hamburg).
During her PhD, Daniela investigated the paleo-ecological and neotectonic evolution of the Island of Rhodes during the Plio-Pleistocene. For this, the assemblages of single-celled fossil organisms (Foraminifera) were used to draw conclusion about the environmental conditions of the past. Further, a microfossil-based transfer function was applied to reconstruct the tectonically induced vertical motions during the Plio-Pleistocene. Due to the high resolution of this method, short-term motions with much higher rates than previously found were detected.
She was a member of the Institute for Geology at Universität Hamburg.
Daniela's future plans?
She will start a post-doc position at the University of Heidelberg and would like to continue her research on and with foraminifera.
