On the 17th, Vito Avakumović successfully defended his doctoral thesis titled “Beyond Cost-Analysis: Combining Climate Targets with Climate Damage Information.” In his work, Vito explored economic decision-making under climate change uncertainty, bridging target-driven climate policy with explicit damage quantification.
His research connects three core pillars of climate economics: climate modeling, impact quantification, and integrated assessment modeling, offering a richer framework for policy-relevant climate analysis. The dissertation was supervised by Prof. Hermann Held, Prof. Tom Kompas, Prof. Andreas Lange, and Dr. James Camac, whose guidance supported this interdisciplinary contribution to the field.
Vito will continue his research at FNK until April, finalizing publications emerging from his doctoral work, before returning to Zagreb. While open to different paths ahead, he aims to remain connected to Hamburg. Congratulations on this important milestone and best wishes for the next chapter!
