Qualification Objectives

Students acquire disciplinary and methodological knowledge from at least two of the following areas: Physical Earth System Sciences (P), Biogeochemistry (B), and Economic and Social Sciences (S).

Contents

Courses are offered on specialized disciplinary knowledge in the fields of Physical Earth System Sciences (P), Biogeochemistry (B), and Economic and Social Sciences (S).

Teaching Formats (Indicated in Semester Hours per Week)

Students choose courses from the fields of Physical Earth System Sciences (P), Biogeochemistry (B), and Economic and Social Sciences (S) from a broad and changing catalog. Common teaching formats include:

• Practical Course (2 SWS)

Module Completion

Module Examination: Partial module examinations include completion of exercises, term papers, or written exams. A maximum of 9 ECTS from each of the areas Physical Earth System Sciences (P), Biogeochemistry (B), and Economic and Social Sciences (S) may be credited.

Students master specific methods, techniques, and skills used to address important climate-related questions.

Contents:

The offered courses cover a wide range of topics in the fields of scientific computing, scientific programming, data analysis, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Students choose courses from a comprehensive and varying catalog. Common teaching formats include:

Students gain an advanced understanding of the interconnections between various physical, biogeochemical, economic, or social science processes within the Earth system. They learn to approach complex questions in climate system sciences in a problem-oriented manner and to develop solution-oriented responses.

Contents

This module offers courses in which students learn to establish links between different physical, biogeochemical, economic, or social science concepts and processes within the Earth system. The courses provide knowledge and tools for integrative learning and thinking, as well as for addressing complex interdisciplinary questions within climate system sciences.
